Fun, flirty and a little bit nostalgic, 2025 dress trends are making us dream of warmer days (hang in there!).
Last spring our minds were very much on all things demure and vintage—after all, the white bubble dress made it to the top of the Lyst Index of the trendiest items of 2024. Then with the Boho and Y2K making a powerful resurgence, slip dresses and leopard print also took over our feeds in the second half of the year.
So what does 2025 have in store for us? For one thing, styles have taken on OTT proportions, be it through exaggerated peplum styles or fantastic fringing. You could almost see them as the evolution of the bubble dress or a manifestation of the cosmic Barbie trend all over the runways.
For the more demure fashion lover, there are also stunning sculptural silhouettes hitting the rails, as well as striped dresses that are as timeless as they are stylish.
Below are 7 dress trends to keep on your radar because you’re about to see lots of them in 2025.
1. VOLUME UP
The bubble dress grows up in 2025 into a full-blown billowy gown. Dresses from Chloé to Zimmermann feature amped up volume that allow for dramatic movement, ruffling at the hems or tucked in to make frothy layers. Given last year’s bold boho revival, it’s no wonder this year’s dresses are getting the flowy treatment.
2. BETWEEN THE LINES
Be it pinstripes or nautical stripes, the fine lines that make up fashion’s most enduring prints will never go out of style. But this season, fashion houses are making them the star, blowing them up and twisting barbershop stripes into evening dresses at Missoni, or printing them onto delicate silk dresses at Louis Vuitton.
3. SCULPTED
When Alaia kicked off the spring-summer 2025 season at the Guggenheim museum, we knew sculptural dresses would be huge this year. From dramatic draping to strategic cutouts, designers have turned sculptors, creating gowns reminiscent of Renaissance statues. Victoria Beckham’s wet-bodice goddess gown is a work of art, really.
4. BOLD BLOOMS
Miranda Priestly might give you the side-eye for wearing florals for spring, but even she’d have to smile at 2025’s take on the seasonal staple. Rather than prim frocks with dainty florals, we’re looking at darker blooms and clashing florals all on the same dress, creating dimension and nuance. Layer over bodysuits like at Marine Serre for the ultimate punk princess look, or wear with chunky boots like at Rabanne.
5. ALL IN THE HIPS
We called it after London Fashion Week in September: Cosmic Barbie, the aesthetic featuring powerful peplum shapes is taking over this year, but of course there are varying levels of pouf. Drop-waisted dresses with crinoline skirts floated down the runway at Erdem and Loewe, making a transcontinental statement that’s sure to influence our dress choices this year.
6. SHEER BEAUTY
Our love for all things sheer shows no signs of waning. In fact, translucent layers appeared on nearly every runway, even at Chanel. And who could blame them? Ethereal yet sexy, it’s a sure-fire way to make a statement at any event, be it with a cloud-white diaphanous look from Bora Aksu or a black lace gown from Stella McCartney.
7. FANCY FRINGE
Fringe is always a favourite for summer as stylish ladies jet off to their beachy destinations with crochet dresses with unfinished hems. But as we’ve established for 2025, more is more, and that goes for the frayed edges. Brands from 16 Arlington to Alaia covered their dresses in fringe from top to toe, making it near impossible to be a wallflower on any dance floor, so here’s your cue to sashay your way into 2025.
