According to reports, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been branded ‘disaster tourists’ in search of a ‘photo op’ after they were pictured consoling victims of the catastrophic Los Angeles wildfires.
Reports say that
Meghan was seen wearing a protective mask and baseball cap as she handed out food parcels at a kiosk, and in another moment, she was seen comforting a victim of the wildfires.
Harry and Meghan’s American dream life is shaky for quite some time now. They have been ostracised by most Hollywood stars. Meghan’s ‘wannabe’ attitude has been looked down upon by many in USA. And everybody would agree that using California wildfire as a publicity stunt was in really bad taste.
Justine Bateman lives in Hollywood Hills and has been affected by the wildfire. In a post shared on X (Twitter), Bateman took issue with the pair’s appearance in Pasadena, writing: “Meghan Markle and Harry are no better than ambulance chasers. What a repulsive ‘photo op’ they achieved. They are ‘touring the damage’? Are they politicians now? They don’t live here; they are tourists. Disaster Tourists.”
Meghan and Harry’s reaction
They found the comment to be offensive. Responding to these accusations, a source close to Meghan and Harry told Page Six, “It’s offensive to Meghan and Harry that anybody would think this is merely a photo opportunity.” The source stressed that Meghan’s “heart is completely broken for all the lives that have been lost and for those whose homes have been destroyed in these fires.” The couple received praise from Pasadena Mayor Victor Gordo, who described them as “great people”.
Meghan Markle’s new Netflix series, ‘With Love, Meghan’
On the other hand, Meghan Markle’s new Netflix series, With Love, Meghan, has been rescheduled. Originally slated for release on January 15, the series will now premiere on March 4. The decision to postpone the release was made out of respect for those affected by the ongoing disaster. Her show has also been hugely criticised.
Firstpost had earlier reported that the eight-episode show, set in a lavish Montecito estate, promises lifestyle tips on cooking, gardening, and crafting, delivered with Meghan’s signature charm. However, critics have labelled it “tone-deaf” and “laughable,” accusing the duchess of promoting an unattainable fantasy under the guise of relatability. From harvesting honey to dishing out Pinterest-ready platitudes like “We’re in the pursuit of joy,” the trailer has sparked both mockery and debate. Is this Meghan returning to her lifestyle-blogging roots, or just another example of curated privilege? Either way, With Love, Meghan is shaping up to be the year’s most polarising lifestyle series—and it hasn’t even aired yet.
