WhatsApp update brings double tap reactions, selfie stickers, and shareable packs | Technology News

WhatsApp is rolling out the first update of 2025, which includes several new features, such as the ability to share sticker packs, create stickers from selfies, and quickly react to messages.

In a blog post, the Meta-owned instant messaging app announced that users will be able to choose from 30 backgrounds, effects, and filters when clicking photos or recording videos from the built-in camera functionality.

As part of the latest update, WhatsApp is also bringing the ability to turn your selfies into stickers. To do so, simply head over to the sticker section and tap on the ‘Create sticker’ button that appears on the top left. Also, you can now share sticker packs with friends and family directly from within the chat window.

To share a sticker pack, tap on the plus button that appears at the end of a sticker pack and you will see a new window that allows you to quickly forward the pack to anyone you want.

Another subtle but much-welcome change is that WhatsApp users can now quickly react to messages by simply double-tapping on the message. This is faster when compared to the previous implementation, which required users to hold a message to bring up the react menu.

Lately, WhatsApp has been testing a bunch of changes and new features, one of which may replace the Communities tab with a new ‘AIs’ tab, where users will be able to build custom AI chatbots tailored to their needs. Reportedly, Meta is also working on introducing a new Meta AI widget for WhatsApp, which will make it easier for users to access the company’s ChatGPT-like generative AI service.
