CCTV visuals of the unidentified intruder who repeatedly stabbed actor Saif Ali Khan inside his house in Mumbai’s Bandra area early Thursday morning have been traced and ten teams have been formed to investigate the offence, police said. As per the preliminary probe, the intruder did not force his entry or break into the actor’s 12th floor flat in Satguru Sharan building, but possibly sneaked in at some point earlier in the night, a police official said.

After the incident that took place around 2.30 am, the attacker took the staircase to escape. His CCTV visuals were traced on the sixth floor, police sources said. Khan’s house-help, who raised initial alarm, suffered a minor knife injury during the scuffle. She later visited the police station to lodge a complaint for alleged attempted murder and trespassing. Police, however, did not confirm the sections under which the First Information Report was registered. The actor’s representatives, in a media statement, said it was a “burglary attempt.” As per the doctors at the Lilavati Hospital where Khan was rushed, he was out of danger after undergoing a surgery for removing the knife stuck in his back.

Imtiaz Ali told News18, “It is shocking to hear about the incident with Saif. At this point, the first things that are coming to my mind are that his injuries are not severe and that he’s going to recover soon.”

Saif’s sister Soha Ali Khan and her actor husband Kunal Kemmu were spotted at the Lilavati hospital.

The Mumbai Police say that Ibrahim and a member of Saif’s staff brought the actor to Lilavati Hospital around 3.30 am. Since there was no driver at home at that hour, he was brought in an auto rickshaw, says police. Saif was admitted to the Lilavati Hospital, where he underwent multiple surgeries. The hospital’s COO, Niraj Uttamani, informed that the actor had six wounds, including two deep ones.

Actor’s domestic help Elyimma Philips alias Lima who was present in the house and she first spotted the accused entering in the flat. She tried to stop an accused and in scuffles she got injuries in her hand. Hearing her scream, Saif Ali Khan came and fight started with him. The accused was carrying sharp kind of object with him and stabbed Khan, said police.

The accused managed to flee from the building. He was captured in the CCTV footage. As of now the accused seen only person in the incident but will clear after the further investigation, said senior officer.

Speaking to media, Dr Nitin Dange, the neurosurgeon said, “Saif Ali Khan was admitted in Lilavati hospital at 2 am with alleged history of assault by an unknown person. He sustained major injury to the thoracic spinal cord due to lodged knife in the spine. Surgery was performed to remove knife and repair leaking spinal fluid. Two other deep wounds on his left hand and neck were repaired by plastic surgery team. The entire surgery was monitored by Dr Srinivas Kudva a cardiologist because of his other condition.

He is completely stable now and recovering well and out of danger.”

The FIR has been registered in the Bandra police station against the burglar, hsaid.

“Saif has six stabs and two are deep. Of this one is close to spine,” he said, adding the actor was operated upon by a team of doctors led neurosurgeon Dr Nitin Dange, cosmetic surgeon Dr Leena Jain and anaesthesiologist Dr Nisha Gandhi.

“He sustained six injuries, two are minor, two intermediate and two deep injuries, one of the injuries is on the back which is close to spine. A neurosurgeon was involved in the surgery,” Dr Uttamani told PTI. The wrist wound is also deep. It’s on the left hand and required a plastic surgeon to repair it, he added.
